Piano Policy

Billing and Fees: I bill a flat monthly fee for the school year.  Summer lessons (June – August) will be billed on a per lesson basis to accommodate everyone’s changing schedules.

I charge a monthly fee for a thirty-minute and a forty-five minute lessons.  This is based on 33 lessons per school year from September 2010 thru May 2011.  Payment is due at the first lesson of each month.  Contact me directly for my current rates.

A weekly lesson time is reserved for your student and regular attendance is necessary for steady progress. If you need to cancel a lesson, you must notify me twenty-four hours in advance.  This will guarantee a make-up or credit for the lesson.  If I receive less than 24 hours notice, you will be required to pay for the lesson. If I am unable to teach a scheduled lesson, you will be given a credit or a refund for the lesson.

If your lesson day is Tuesday, Wednesday or Friday, I will be taking a “sick day” in order to balance my schedule.  I will give you a day or more notice when that day will be.

Music books and materials will be billed separately.  Please write a separate check for music.

One-time yearly fees will be billed in October for performance classes and two recitals , Certificate of Merit studio and registration and Piano Explorer magazine.

No lessons on the following dates:

  • September 6th
  • November 11th
  • November 24th – 26th
  • December 20th – 31st
  • January 17th
  • April 18st – 22nd
  • May 30th, 31st
    • Fall and winter piano class and recital dates: Piano classes on October 23rd and November 20th.  Our first recital will be on December 5th.  Winter and spring classes and recital dates have not been scheduled yet, as soon as I can confirm these dates I will inform you.

Certificate of Merit will be held on March 12th and 13th.

Performance Classes and Recitals: Three other piano teachers and I invite our piano students to participate in group classes and two recitals per year.  Although these group classes are optional, they are highly recommended.  Classes are held at the Allegro Music School in Foster City and the recitals are held at the Foster City Library/Community Center 1000 E. Hillsdale Blvd, Foster City.  The purpose of the classes is to build confidence in performance and also make piano lessons more meaningful.

E-mail:  E-mail is a great way to communicate with me!  Please send me your e-mail address.  Sending me an e-mail to cancel or change lesson times is fine as long as you give me 24 hours notice of any changes.

Piano Care: If your piano has not been tuned yet this year, late October or November is the good time to have it done.

Piano Explorer: The Piano Explorer is a magazine published for piano students.  It contains information on composers, famous performers, various instruments, music games and compositions.

Parking: Please park directly in front of the house during the lesson and take care not to block the driveway.

I look forward to a highly productive year!  Don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions about my policy or any other matter.
